     MAPBD is a non-profit organization comprised
      of both individual members and member clubs.
      Collectively, we are a diverse group of        
      experienced dog owners, breeders, and  
      exhibitors. Our members participate in numerous  
      dog sports including such activities as  
      conformation,obedience, agility, and hunting.

      What brings us all together in MAPBD is our
      collective interest in effective and fair canine
      legislation and promoting responsible dog
      ownership. Restrictive laws that effect dog
      ownership are proposed and passed every day at
      the national, state and local levels. Many of these
      laws are proposed by well-meaning, but generally
      misinformed citizens or legislators.  Unfortunately,
      too many of these initiatives are part of a radical
      "animal rights" agenda backed by well-funded
      groups working to ultimately ban all pet
      ownership.  

    Among these types of  proposed  laws are:

        * "breed specific" laws to ban ownership of
           certain breeds
        * mandatory spay and neuter for all dogs
        * breeding restrictions
        * bans on hunting with dogs

    MAPBD continually tracks these legislative efforts.
     Additionally, MAPBD members meet regularly with
     various legislators to discuss those laws that will
     impact responsible dog ownership.


    We urge all responsible dog owners to become
     involved in the legislative process.  Anyone
     interested in effective dog laws is welcome and
     encouraged to attend MAPBD Meetings.   
     MAPBD meets regularly throughout the year. We  
     welcome guests and prospective members.  If you

               o promote the best interests of
      pure bred dogs; to encourage proper and
      humane practices by breeders, owners,
      dealers, and all others associated with
      dogs and to oppose misrepresentation
      and all other malpractices involving  
      dogs, their breeders, owners,trainers, and
      fanciers; to encourage the adoption
      of laws, rules, ordinances or legislation
      in the best interest of pure bred dogs; and
      to discourage the adoption of laws, rules,
      ordinances or legislation found by the
      Association not to be in its best interest;
      and to own real and personal property
      and to perform all acts not prohibited by
      law to accomplish the foregoing.
